Spain's Congress are getting Smartphones

SPAIN'S Congress has put the annual contract for the telecommunications service out to tender.

This includes internet, mobile telephones as well as landlines to a maximum of €1 million. Among the conditions outlined by the tender is the provision of 600 mobile handsets of which 400 should be ‘smartphones with the latest technology, like the iPhone or similar’.

Most of the existing mobile telephone services are provided by Telefonica, which was awarded an annual contract worth €700,000 in 2008. The current deal includes broadband internet lines in the home of all the members. Independent of this contract it has been agreed that members of congress elected on November 20 will receive tablet PCs instead of laptop computers.
